Join us for “Redding Restart: Addressing Mental Health”—an initiative aimed at shedding light on the mental health needs of our homeless community. This event seeks to challenge the stigmas surrounding mental health and homelessness and educate our community through informed conversation and the sharing of heartfelt stories. Together with healthcare professionals and community members, we aspire to foster a deeper understanding and a more compassionate perspective towards those facing homelessness in Redding. Take a step with us towards building a community where understanding and empathy triumph.
Panelists
Laura Stapp– Deputy Branch Director of Mental Health
Laura Stapp, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, has worked in the social service field her entire career. After graduating from Humboldt State in the early 90s with a degree in psychology, she saw the interrelationship of systems on individuals. In 2002, California State University Sacramento, offered a master’s in social work distance learning program in Redding, which Laura completed in 2005. Following graduation, Laura pursued her hours to become a licensed therapist. In 2011, Laura achieved that goal and has been practicing and supervising others ever since.
In December 2016, Laura was hired as a Clinical Program Coordinator at Shasta County Health and Human Services, youth mental health division. Prior to that, she worked for Northern Valley Catholic Social Services for 17 years holding various positions from Independent Living Skills Social Worker to Regional Director for Shasta, Butte, Trinity and Siskiyou Counties. Laura has a vast amount of experience from client – family centered care, collaborating, advocating, mental health treatment, program development, clinical supervision, interfacing with funders and board of directors, and administrative and financial management. The central theme in Laura’s work throughout her career has been the focus on trauma and attachment. Laura identifies her heroes as doctors Bruce Perry and Nadine Burke Harris, two well-known trauma champions. Laura prides herself on respecting others and leading by example, two traits she values and hopes to pass along to all those she interfaces with.
Glen Hayward – Executive Director of Health Services Redding Rancheria
Glen Hayward was born and raised in Redding, CA and is a Redding Rancheria Tribal Member of Pit-River & Wintu descent. Glen attended Shasta College for his RN license and worked in the Emergency room for 13 years. Prior to coming to the Redding Rancheria, Glen was the Director of Emergency Services at Shasta Regional Medical Center.
Glen earned his Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville University, a Master’s of Science in Disaster Medicine from Philadelphia University and his Masters of Science in Nursing from Samuel Merritt University. Glen is also a board certified family nurse practitioner and practices family medicine at the Tribal health center. Glen is married to his wife Amy and they have 4 children. Glen is the Executive Director of the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health system which has four health campuses in Shasta and Trinity County.
Dr. Thomas Andrews- North American Mental Health Services
Thomas J. Andrews, MD is a Board certified psychiatrist in Redding, CA and has 40 years’ experience. He graduated from Loma Linda University School Of Medicine in 1979 and completed his residency in Adult Psychiatry at Northwestern University Chicago, Illinois and a Fellowship at Children’s Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. He also has his Masters degree in Medical Management from Tulane University , New Orleans, Louisiana. He currently owns his personal practice Thomas J Andrews MD inc. / Psychiatric Care Center and is CEO and Co-Owner Of North American Mental Health Services ( NAMHS), the largest provider of Medi-Cal services in California for Beacon/Carelon Health Options. Dr. Andrews has experience in treating conditions; Anxiety, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Eating Disorders, Psychotic Disorders, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among other conditions at varying frequencies. Dr. Andrews has a heart for the Redding Community and feels strongly that a strong mental health program is vital to the overall health of its citizens. He strives to bring Compassionate, Competent Care to those he and his associate’s serve.
